Michelle has over 16 years of experience in social work. Most of her work has been in foster care and adoption, serving children, youth, and families. Michelle has a strong commitment to helping children, youth and families heal from the trauma associated with the child welfare system.

Throughout her career, Michelle has worked in various states in California, Michigan, Washington D.C., and Maryland. Her career has taken her through a range of positions, including working for county agencies and non-profit organizations. Some of her roles have included working as a case manager, therapist, program coordinator, and supervisor. Before Barker, Michelle was the health coordinator for Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS). Her role involved overseeing and managing various health programs and initiatives within the school district.
